Our work for The Four Horseshoes originally centred around restoration of the pub, revitalising its historic character. A new restaurant, doubling the capacity of the pub was added. The next phase is a 24-room annex for overnight accommodation. Savills have shown the need, and our client has commissioned us to obtain planning permission.
For phase 1 we used the skittle alley as the precedent for the footprint of the refurbishment. We articulated this long, narrow volume by expressing the columns and trusses that support the roof. An element of modernity is added by the glazed curtain walls in the restaurant which also helps to visually delineate the dual functions of the space and improve natural lighting.
Phase 2 - the rooms' annex - provides family and individual bedroom accommodation that rely on the pub for its dining and leisure support.
