The essence of this project was to craft a nurturing and inclusive residential environment, specifically designed to provide individuals with learning difficulties a better place to call home. The project goes beyond architecture; it's about creating a space where the unique needs and well-being of its residents are central to the project's success.
Those who were given the chance to live in these extraordinarily generous bungalows showed significant signs of improvement in their well-being within weeks. Residents who had serious issues with meeting people were relaxed enough to invite a team from the Pinders Awards into their homes, and the development went on to win.
The homes use the roof space to remove any feelings of oppression, and were built with beautiful materials including Ham Hill stone. Cut rough as rubblestone for the external walls and dressed as ashlar to the window surrounds these different finishes demonstrate how this material can be a radical and stimulating choice.
