Barn Close House was designed by Architect Halsey Ricardo in 1910-11. Our brief was to adapt and extend the contemporaneous utility wing to create a new spacious kitchen to the South West. As with all heritage projects, the primary goal was to meet the brief without compromising the integrity of the original house.
Our concept of extending the original design for the utility wing appeared simple, so that there was no perceived change in the balance of the original composition. Our work then comprised the careful integration of brick detailing, structural steelwork, glazing and a working chimney to execute the design to a standard that befitted the building.
