This new build house has been carefully designed to respect the Conservation Area and the listed buildings that lie close by. It uses the traditional materials of the area – brick, flint and plain clay tile, in a composition that is lively and site-specific.
Orientation and topography are keys to the design: the house entrance is set on the flank wall where it will be seen obliquely when entering the site, and this leaves the South-facing front elevation free to connect to the outside on warm days. Service spaces such as the utility room and the stairs are placed to the rear. Mature trees are retained at the front providing an established green setting and some privacy to the house from the road.
