A COUNTRY COTTAGE REVIVED
This was a rural, run down cottage with no bathroom or toilet.
We modernised and extended the property whilst retaining the character of the original building, which sat next to a listed building.
We sourced the oak shingles locally for the roof, adopting a Dorset roof form of construction to provide the fire protection, and the woodburner’s flue rises well above it. We helped make the SIPs panels for the walls and erected them in a couple of days. This use of timber frame with douglas fir boarding allowed us to avoid underpinning the cottage, although this was of lesser concern than elsewhere, due to the solid chalk ground.
